Why does gas set electricity prices.

A recent "West Report" article by Rex Patrick on this subject clearly, establishes that "Electricity prices are set by the gas price. The gas price is set by the gas cartel, and the government is doing nothing about it - even censoring discussion on remedies." Back in 2019, Rex Patrick gained agreement from the then Finance Minister Mathias Cormann and Resources Minister Matt Canavan to pursue a prospective national gas reservation policy. As he said, "It was a start."
"The Government formally announced its intention to consider a prospective national gas reservation policy on August 5, 2019." They set about preparing an issue paper, completed in October 2020. Submissions were received, and an options paper was sent to the Minister for Resources in November 2021. Then came a change of government, and nothing happened.
Subsequently, Rex Patrick pursued the matter with the new government and it quickly became clear, the Albanese Government wanted it kept under wraps. He commented "At the start they denied access to everything. Not one page, not one paragraph, not one word was to be released to me or the Australian public".
At that point most FOI applicants give up, but not Mr. Patrick. He filed a follow -up FOI into the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. "As soon as I got the FOI into the AAT, the government relented and gave me half the document - but they were determined to deny access to the most significant information." After all this, it became apparent that DFAT, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, were concerned that the ( iniquitous) issues may upset the " Japanese, Korea and Singapore"
Governments. The wash -up is that we the people of Australia, will not see these documents until 2042. As Rex says "Free debate in this country about our energy resources and policy options is being censored in the interest of keeping the Japanese, South Korean and Singaporean governments and energy giants, in those countries , happy." These are supposed to be our friends!
What is even more disconcerting is the fact that our electricity prices are set by the gas price. Also disconcerting, is that apparently the gas cartel ie, the three cartel members- LNG exporters, are the means .that decide the price of our gas. In other words, our electricity prices are set by gas exporters, with no concern for the interests of Australia. Then of course, the question must be asked ? Who owns the gas exporters? Continual reference is made to the " cartel". When one refers to our ACCC (Australian Competition & Consumer Commission), it seems we don't have cartels.
Apparently, they are not lawful. Perhaps one day, we the people will get the truth! Yes and pigs might fly? In the meantime, we just have to believe that the gas belongs to us.
