The essay by Dr. Joe"lle Gergis in the current "Quarterly Essay" titled as above,is a must read for all Australians. Particularly our Party Politicians, both the current Government and opposition.

She quotes so much strong information that it is amazing that the fossil fuel industries can be allowed to get away with their corruption of our (So called) two party system.

The coalition is without doubt the most corrosive of our parties, unfortunately the capitalists are also the most blatant. How did we arrive at the situation that our gas extractors, despite exporting our fossil fuel and generating enormous profits pay little or no royalties / taxes.

According to the Australia Institute the government collected in 2022/23, only $2.3 billion from the Petroleum Resource Rent tax (PRRT) while taking $4.9 billion from Student loan repayments (HECS). Even more disturbing, in 2020/21 our nurses paid in excess of three times more income tax than the gas industry paid in income tax and the PRRT. This is just some of the. inequities imposed on we, the nation. Richard Denniss, executive director of the Australia Institute pointed out that Norway taxes the fossil fuel industry and give kids free university education.

Only our major political parties are so benighted as to set up such ridiculous practices.

The good news is that stopping fossil fuel extraction won't hurt our economy. We receive bugger all from it, thereby no excuse for not stopping all new gas applications, recently approved.

The failure of the (so called) two- party system is clearly defined.
