Israel v The UN.

The article by Karen Barlow in The Saturday Paper of w/eAug. 8th. is prescient and, of course valid. However, as a long- time supporter of the presence of Israel, it is about time that the world reminded ISRAEL that its place as a member of the UN-, is by the goodwill of nations, such as ours. There is no doubt that Israel has had to fight long and hard for its continued existence. Granted statehood as Israel in 1948, as one of the first decisions of the UN, the world applauded. Without any delay, the Arabic people of that part of the then Jordan/ Palestine resisted. ie what became the '"West Bank."

The area known as Gaza was also under Arabic control. From 1948 until 1967 Israel was under almost continuous attack and in June 1967, initiated the so-called-, preemptive SIX- Day war. In the duration, Israel now occupied far more land than they had been granted. This included the "West Bank", Gaza and the Negev, desert region of Egypt, also the Sinai peninsula ( temporarily).

Although Israel continues to occupy the "West Bank," it has never been approved by the UN. and here lies (probably) the nub of the question.

During its illegal control of the region, the Israeli government has continually expanded settler occupation in a number of areas, despite demands by the UN to cease the practice. Additionally, it has never managed or governed the region in a fit , fair and humane manner. The Israeli government has consistently treated the Arab inhabitants with contempt and abuse. If successive Israeli governments, had shown fair and decent behaviour towards the Palestinian people under their control, perhaps the world would be prepared to consider the adoption of the WEST BANK into a form of partnership,in

/or with Israel. Under leader Netanyahu, Israel can now only be considered a rogue state and Australia should propose that its membership of the UN be withdrawn. World Jewery should be prevailed upon to deny Israel as a Jewish State and encourage severe disengagement from world affairs. Netanyahu should be declared a murderer and brought before the world court and imprisoned for life. While Islam, in the form of ISIS is totally unacceptable, so are the Israeli supporters of Netanyahu
