Unlawful Spending

The article in this weeks "Saturday Paper" by Professor Anne Twomey titled "Stop unlawful spending" is so true. For the past 50 years or so federal governments have had no compunction in shovelling billions of dollars of taxpayer money into local projects that have been unlawful. The constitution does not confer any power on the Commonwealth to fund sporting clubs and public recreation amenities etc.

The political parties have in the past resorted to using such funds purely to buy political favour and hence votes, at a coming election. Despite being aware that using such funds, as has been pointed out by the Australian National Audit Office, has no legal authority. Apparently when challenged the government of the day has whipped up legislation to authorise such practices. No doubt with the compliance of the opposition

of the day.

When challenged professor Twomey infers, the political answer is "will anyone take us to court and catch us with our fingers in the till" There have been many examples of these practices over many years, clearly demonstrating to we the people, that the parties will resort to nefarious action when it suits them. They apparently have become so accustomed to this practice they term it "soft corruption".

This is just one more example of the politicians misusing our taxpayers money. Become a member.
