The article in last week's Saturday Paper by Paul Bongiorno above, clearly illustrates how the opposition pays no credence to treasury performance and generally the government.
What it does illustrate is how clearly the coalition is not at all interested in day to day results but only how they are determined to demonstrate their true lack of interest in governing of the nation.
Over the last two years or so in opposition, they have clearly demonstrated that they don't give a stuff about the nation. Their sole aim is electioneering for the next election so they can get their snouts in the trough and enjoy the gravy train that emanates from being in government, in Canberra. While the political parties are all driven by the same aim, the current government appears to be committed, at least to trying to serve the nation's interests.
The only problem with Labor is,they seem unable to understand, that despite the difficulties of governing while having to cease approving of fossil fuel extractions, we as a nation, have to comply with the demands of Climate Change, whatever the cost. Both members of the two- party system refuse to recognise this fact, even though there are many alternative avenues to pursue.
The main one is the enormous cost saving to be had by removal of all political parties. The cost of running Parliament and government under the existing party political system is hugely inflated. With a parliament of independent members, answerable to each of their electorates, billions of dollars would be saved each year. But of course expecting the political parties to admit or concede this fact would be problematic. The fact that the two major parties are adversaries both in and outside of parliament is, apparently accepted as normal.
One only has to listen or watch question time to observe the huge amount of non-productive time wasting, almost every day when the house is sitting. Then of course there is the constant barrage of lies and deceit spewing through the media, with little or no constructive discourse. Issues such as "negative gearing" are ignored while the Prime Minister buys himself another house (probably negative geared) but the coalition make little or no comment because they are almost certainly guilty of using the same tax lurk. It would be interesting if a commission of enquiry was established into how many parliamentarians on all sides actually utilise this particular tax benefit?
In fact it would be interesting if the Senate were able to extract from treasury or the Tax office, just how many individuals alone enjoy this benefit. The dollars forfitted each year would be enormous.
A figure of 10 billion dollars per annum has recently been floated but is probably conservative.
