The article by Mike Seccombe in this weeks "The Saturday Paper" titled as above, clearly demonstrates the dishonesty of former Prime Minister John Howard, as well as his party. The coalition has for decades persued policies that favour the wealthy capitalists and their vested interrests. A form of negative gearing was first introduced in 1936 by the Joe Lyons government ostensibly for the same reasons that apply today.

However, the coalition apparently, have always supported negative gearing only because it favours their wealthy friends and because a significant number of parliamentarians own multiples of property investments.

Then of course Howards treasurer Costello, halved capital gains tax resulting in even greater benefit to those property investors with the financial resources. Although Labor has threatened to reduce or limit the tax breaks at various times ,they have almost inevitably got cold feet, when it comes to election time. Treasury figures released in January indicate that these tax deductions will result in $27.1 billion forgone revenue for the year 2023-24. Just another example of the values of our Two party system.

With a parliament populated by independent members of the" Movement for better government" all sworn to act with integrity, honesty and in the best interrest of the people, these deceitful practices would cease.
