As usual, the article in this week's "The Saturday Paper" titled as above by Mike Seccombe, is of extreme importance. Australia has, for far too long, been guided by the influence of our "Two party" system, in fact back to Federation. Historically, the party politicians have never deviated, while in government, to sponsor the interests of the mining sector. Firstly, because it was easy to approve any extractive industry in the eyes of the population. We the people, were too willing to accept such activities as common sense. But, we the people were invariably unaware of the fact that generally, those (so-called ) sponsors were primarily the source of corrupt funds.

Unfortunately, those corrupt funds benefited the political parties regardless of the need for standards of quality practices or the negative effects,-of such applications. Frankly, they didn't care!

But as the decades passed, and operational methods became of more concern, safety also became of concern, thanks to the interest of the Unions. It was only then that the nation became concerned for the impact on the environment and cultural interests, that we started to seriously think about the importance of these issues. Of course, these issues almost immediately became of concern, for the political parties. The coalition, being an arm of the capitalist system, has always acted on behalf of the vested interests that profited from mining and such activities. Labor, although perhaps more principled, allowed itself to be controlled by the interests of those unions involved, in such activities as coal et al.

We now come to the issue at hand. While Murray Watt, the newly appointed environmental minister, is considered the "Fixer", let's hope he is going to operate in the genuine interests of the environment, Australian and worldwide. Unfortunately, the Prime Minister Albanese, has always acted in the interest of his party! Ignoring his obligation to the nation. We deserve better! There is no doubt that Albanese, appointing Tanya Plibersek to the environment portfolio, was a vindictive act, proven by his meddling in a couple of her good efforts with the Greens and Senator Pocock.

It will be interesting to see how he handles "Watt".

All this conjecture aside, it is now imperative that the newly installed government acts with honesty and integrity, in the handling of the environment portfolio. We can no longer ignore the portents of Climate Change, as it affects land, sea, and air. The influence of the fossil fuel industry here in Australia and throughout the world has always been the purest form of rampant capitalism. While all capitalists are not corrupt, too many are motivated by simple greed and the drive to maximise profit, whatever the negative effects upon society. Unfortunately, the political parties here in Australia have always embraced this capitalistic fact, enabling them to wallow in the trough that is our Parliament. It is this reason that the cost of running parliament and with it the Government, is enormous. There is no doubt that the major parties, very early on, came to the conclusion that they, in unison, had control of the Parliament and thus the government. This fact, despite their supposed opposition to each other and perceived adversarial manner when in parliament. It is this reason that we, Australia, retain among the highest- paid parliamentarians of any Nation. It is also this reason why the cost of running our parliament and government, is extreme. With a parliament of 150 independent parliamentarians, selected and appointed by their individual electorates. Answerable only to their electorates and the nation, we will become the worlds first true democracy. Corrupt free!
