The ABC and all that

With the report announcing the appointment of a new chairman, lets hope that we are going to see a restoring of the the ABC to its long history of importance to our society. Their is no doubt the ABC has been the whipping boy of our cultural status. This has been the function of succesive governments over many years.

The political parties have always deemed it their right, when in power, to accuse the organisation of partisan practices when they were the subject of criticism, when they were in fact worthy of such criticism. The result was they assumed it their right to reduce funding as a form of penalty. These actions have never been justified and we the people have never voiced our dissaproval. Well surely the time has come for corrective action.

The ABC is supposed to be independent but dependent upon the Government of the day for funding. The trouble is the party that is in power almost inevitably believes it is entitled to restrict its flow of funding and it is constantly being bullied for daring to speak out. We the people must surely wake up to this political philandering that continues, year after year. Become a member?
