Lobbying

An etremely informative article in this weeks "The Saturday Paper" by Jason Koutsoukis clearly spells out the parasitic nature of the " lobbying industry" , if you can call it that.
Lobbying as a supposed activity of Parliament is a blatant lie. While generally accepted as integral to the functioning of parliament/ government, it is not and never has been so. It is a practice inhereted from the English Westminster and Washington systems that as we all know , have many failings.
In Australia,it is deffinitely a corrupt practice which adds substantially to the cost of running our nation. The political party system that has evolved since Federation was also inhereted and has resulted in enormous costs to run government, particulatly the two party system of government. To establish the overall cost of government in Australia is extremely difficult. The figures are available but to aggregate and arrive at an annual cost is almost impossible. One can only come to a conclusion that it is not unplanned? With a parliament occupied by independent members, both houses, the savings in real terms would be huge . At least fifty percent, probably Billions of dollars per annum.
A grassroots movement such as the 'Movement for better government " is the most likely way, if not the only way to bring about such an outcome.
