Labor's First Extinction.

Over the last decade at least, successive Federal governments and Tasmania have deliberately undermined the fact that most Australians fervently believe Tasmania is our most ECO friendly State.

Macquarie Harbour and the town of Strathan are recognised as being part of the States celebrated World Heritage Area. Despite this, the politicians of our much vaunted two party system, have continually refused to acknowledge the importance of its remarkable environmental characteristics.

The now foreign owened Salmon industry, which has been under severe criticism for its refusal to concede that its practices were decidedly unfriendly to the environment, has just contiued on its way. The new owners would certainly have been aware of the concerns being raised by numerous enviromental scientists and bodies over the two decades prior.

The article by Richard Flanagan, an author born in Tasmania, has in the current edition of "THe Monthly" magazine titled 'Labor's First Extinction" is,detailed and hard hitting of the subject. What is most disconcerting is , as an industry, the current Government is continuing the the very bad practices of its opponenents when in government. During their occupation of our parliament they lied and promoted deceitful practices about the industry and the new government is slavishly following their lead.Unfotunately not only is the environment being severely damaged but species are being doomed.

It's obvious that both members of the two party system are so committed to their vested friends that the environment comes a distant second. There is no doubt that with a parliament of independents the environment would always come first.
