As Victoria's government under Jacinta Allan is trying to pursue a previously announced policy, to phase out gas and electrify the state, "Australian Energy Producers" Australia's oldest oil and gas industry association under the leadership of it's director Peter Kos has called on the state government to abandon its plan entirely. The question is why? These changes form part of the gas substitution roadmap originally released in 2022 and updated December 2023. Apparently designed to wean Victorians off gas as prices rise, supply issues grow, and demands of climate change mount.
This is just another example of rampant capitalism acting in their own interests regardless of the threat to mankind or the pockets of the citizenry. We all know by now, how the need to lessen fossil fuel extraction is essential for our worldwide future, yet the Victorian government is being castigated for acting in our national interest. There is no doubt that in the past, state governments acted in the interest of their citizens when promoting fossil fuel use, but that time is long gone. Unfortunately our political parties in all states have always taken the easy way out, particularly when it benefitted the vested interests of their donors, and don't forget the lobbyists?
The need for a parliament of independent members, nominated and elected by their individual electorates, supported by the Movement for Better government is now. Become a member-
