Electoral Reform Bill 2024.

Having downloaded the above bill, it states in the introduction "It proposes the largest reform to Australia's electoral laws in over 40 years." It then goes on to say "Those recommendations and this Bill, seek to remove the influence of big money in politics." All sounds so exciting, " Ensuring that our electoral system remains a system we can all trust" Fantastic?? BUT. After one ploughs through the rest of the four pages, we can only arrive at the conclusion that it is a stitch-up.

Helen Haines, the independent member for Indi in Victoria, possibly the most effective of all the independents now in Parliament, succinctly says " In a major party stitch-up

, the government has teamed up with the coalition, to ram through donation reform laws in the dying days of parliament." The reason for this haste is that they are determined to render the likes of Clive Palmer with caps on donations, which while perhaps, valid in his case, will severely affect the fundraising of the independents and others currently in parliament.

This in itself would not seem too bad, except that coincidently they, the two major parties, will continue to prosper under the existing electoral funding repayments system, which continues to function, post elections.

If passed, this will be the biggest attack on our democracy in decades. Become a member of the movement for better government, and help make Australia the world's first True Democracy.
