COP 28 and all that

Here we are in the midst of COP28- Dubai. Sounds exciting doesn't it, But is it ? Starting with the venue,Dubai capital of the United Arab Emirates , an oil and gas producing country adjacent to Qatar. The Sultan of Qatar just happens to be the president of COP28.??? Apparently Qatar vies with us (Australia) for the title of the worlds largest gas exporter. A dubious honor, as the Sultan has already been recorded as secretely planning to use his position to negotiate oil deals with foreign governments on behalf of The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.

This concern is further heightened because he is quoted as saying in an interview "There is no science out there or no scenario out there, that says that the phase- out of fossil fuel is what's going to achieve 1.5c" .

He then went on to say "Please help me, show me the roadmap for a phase- out of fossil fuel that will allow for sustainable sosioeconomic development, unless you want to take the world back into caves" This is the man who is the in situ president of COP28?

How many years have passed since our aspiring governments , both the coalition and labor, have delibeately denied Climate Change. In particular the coalition, who have lied and obfuscated knowingly, not just to avoid the facts of stopping fossil fuel incomes, but to look after the donations to be received from their vested interrest friends.

We , the Nation have no alternative but to face the fact that stopping the flow of funds emanating from fossil fuel extraction will be extremely deletarious to our economy. But it has to be faced. The political parties however, are more concerned about the flow of funds to their own coffers. Embarrassing isn't it , that we Australia, can be aligned with the Arab gulf states , even though they will probably be more vulnerable than we.
