Children don't belong in prison.

The article by Senator Lydia Thorpe in this week's "The Saturday Paper" titled as above is a must-read. While I didn't agree with her stance a on "The Voice " referendum, I think what she expresses in this article is so right. Example - "This isn't about one or two bad states or a few bad facilities. This is a national crisis of deliberate, systemic abuse of children by governments in state-run facilities."

" The Ted Noffs Foundation chief executive Matt Noffs estimated there were about 200 serious offenders nationwide who posed a risk to the community." She goes on to say" It is a manageable number- we could provide intensive, tailored, wraparound support to these children and their families that addresses the underlying drivers of their behavior. But that's not happening."

"So what is the problem? Many of the community-controlled organisations that have been fighting for reform for years, made submissions to the Hollonds inquiry, saying the key barrier to change was not a lack of alternative possibilities but a lack of political will."

That last comment "lack of political will" is not quite right. It is now and has always been since Federation, the attitude of our Political Parties and successive governments, to disregard the plight and needs of our indigenous brethren, ignoring even their presence in the nation. While ever we are governed by the party politicals especially the so-called two party system , we have never been governed by a system that operates in the interests of the nation. Unfortunately the white majority have to face the fact that until we, join the drive to become an inclusive population, we will all be responsible for the degradation of the indigenous people of our nation.

With a parliament comprised of independent members selected, nominated and installed by the voting majority in each electorate, to act at all times in the interest of the nation, we Australia, will become the worlds first True Democracy. Become a member of:
