A sick watchdog.

In last week's edition of "The Saturday Paper" an article by Mike Seccombe titled " A sick watchdog" is excellent reading about a damning Senate report into Australia's corporate regulator. Were it not so prescient to all of Australia, or those who cared, it would demand action, but we need to remember the lack of action by successive governments over the decades.

However, the afore- mentioned report is now advocating replacement of the body currently known as ASIC with a new yet to be formed body. Strangely the other body that was part of the so-called "Twin Peaks" and was also severely criticised by the Haynes Royal Commission back in 1919, is not being equally charged.

Liberal senator Andrew Bragg , chair of the report committee couldn't help politicising the release of his report, trumpeting a slow response by the current Labor government.

He needs to be reminded that his party while in government, constantly and prior to the Haynes Roral Commission had to be dragged screaming to a state where they had no option but to appoint the said Royal Commission. They were as much to blame for the failings of the "Twin Peaks.

Just another example of the failings of our (so-called) two - party system. Political parties will never stop putting their vested interests before the interests of the people.
