The independent options.
The article above by Bob Brown in this week's "The Saturday Paper" is prescient ,naturally. A man of his intelligence and experience in politics, plus integrity. He even has time to take a swipe at the 800 lobbyists who work in Canberra. An unnecessary activity that should be termed "parasites". The fact that the "Lobbying Code of Conduct" in its preamble, describes it as a "legitimate activity",is to say, at the least, questionable. It was obviously written by a concert of the "Two- party" system, and that is in turn, questionable.
He goes on to say, and I quote," In Australia- one of the richest per capita countries on Earth, if its resource base is considered - these factors are stalking politics and are destroying the time-honoured two -party political system" My opinion would challenge that last line.
Brown goes on to a further salient comment. "Recent elections have shown voter support for the old parties dropping consistently, The 2028 election will likely see the lowest vote for the Coalition and Labor in history." Now that the Coalition is splintering , even further to the right,
leaving the teal independents to occupy the middle ground, it appears that the voters are finally waking up to the need for true democracy. A Parliament of independent members, selected and supported by their electorates, displacing all politicians, will eventually result in a Government, free of vested interests and the corruption-, that prevails at this time.
