The title above is from an article by Cassandra Goldie of the "Australian Council of Social Services" in the The Saturday Paper. All of her comments are valid, particularly congratulating the Prime Minister on his decision to redesign the stage three tax cuts.

Ms. Goldie goes on to highlight many good points such as , the unreformed stage three tax cuts on income between $45,000 and $200,000 would have made Australia something of a tax haven, compared with peers such as the United Kingdom, France and Germany. She goes on to say we are not a high taxing country despite the commentary that would suggest otherwise. Australia already raises less revenue from personal income tax than the OECD average, at18 percent of GDP compared with 21 percent. Overall we are the ninth lowest taxing country in the OECD.

She goes on to say we need to raise more revenue, not less. This last comment is particularly significant. Our inbred "Two Party system" of government has consistently failed to address the huge importance of Climate Chamge. The fact that sooner than later, we are going to lose revenue from the reduction, even cessation of the extractive industries, which is a must, will have serious impact upon our annual budgets. Our successive Governments over the last 3 to 4 decades have refused to face up to the climate disaster that is iminent. Fortunately, because we have never realised the level of taxes and royalties that many other nations have earned, the impact may not be so dire. This because, our political masters have never protected our natural resources in deference to their vested interrests.

Australia has apparently, always been the "suckers" when it came to negotiation over selling our resources even industrial/commercial assets. When it comes to free trade agreements, the people should demand a Royal commision into our succesive agreements with almost every world nation.

We , the people, would then know how incompetent our major political parties have been , perhaps even corrupt.
